Everyone’s journey through life is different.  It can be like a roller coaster, drifting along on a cloud or a game of snakes and ladders.  It can exhilarate or depress depending on what we ourselves do or don’t do or what others do to us.  It can change us into someone we don’t recognise or we can take control and become the person we were always meant to be.

In recent years I realised that my early life was one where adverse life experiences dictated that ‘life happened to me’.  I was powerless in my personal life but successful in my professional life and built two careers.

In my middle life I was made redundant unfairly.  It made me angry but I used the power of the emotion to propel me forward.  I ‘took control of my life’ and took psychometric assessments at Career Analysts in London where I learned that I have problem solving and analytical skills within the top 2% in the UK.  It changed my life and I walked into a Management role for a Regional Tourist Board.

The opportunity arose to go to Hong Kong where I became an Entrepreneur.  Back in the UK after two years I became a Management Consultant working across sectors and industries with a focus on People Development.

I have also been described as a Coach/Mentor as my experience spans both performance & career and personal & professional development.

I have an MSc HRM 1994 from Anglia Polytechnic University (now Anglia Ruskin) and studied Intrinsic Motivation for my thesis as a result developing a new model of motivation – MIA™ (Motivating the Individual to Achieve).  I needed to know why people treat people as they do.  I also developed a tool Personal Insights™ to help young people identify their innate talents that helps them be confident when applying for their first job.

I was a Prince’s Trust Business Start-Up Mentor from 2000 to 2020.  In 2003 they supported my E-Mentoring Online Diploma Course (60+ hours) “Supporting Employee Development through Mentoring” from Suffolk College.  I also received Mentor training in 2001 from Professor David Clutterbuck, Clutterbuck Associates – a Co-Founder and President of EMCC (European Mentoring & Coaching Council).

In the past 4 years to 2022 I had to coach myself to recover from personal loss and trauma and for the first time in my life had to learn to live and thrive on my own, as well as deal with the Pandemic with its lockdowns and isolation.

As part of that process I benefitted from completing the RevealMyWay Assessment as it enabled me to go even deeper than I could have done on my own and to analyse how I got to where I was.  I learned more about myself in the process.

I welcome adverse life experiences as unique opportunities to learn more about myself and my capabilities, and to change my perspectives on life itself.

How I have helped others:-

“Our meetings allow me to have a focused discussion with someone who is reassuring but at the same time grounds me to the roots of my thoughts and brings me back to earth”  Sammy (Princes Trust mentee)

“Encouragement to examine difficult issues (what is/is not working and why), Sensible approach to problem solving (helping to find solution that works for me), Enables me to address situation that I would normally find daunting, find a beginning and follow on process.” Georgie

“My wife and business partner Barbara has been invaluable in assisting me in my work as a Management Consultant, particularly: Understanding how people communicate, body language etc. and reading between the lines, Trying to understand why people behave in the way they do – the importance of understanding their background and history and what motivates them, and the importance of positive thinking.” Mike

“I had been struggling with deciding whether I was on the right career path for a while which led me to seek out Barbara’s assistance.  It was completely invaluable.  Barbara quickly helped me to realise what exactly my issue with my career was, and that it wasn’t my chosen career, just my present situation.  I was so disillusioned at the time, without Barbara I think I would have probably changed careers.”  Angharad

“As a newly promoted Manager, in a company undergoing significant organisational change, I found the opportunity to explore and resolve the inevitable concerns of my daily working life with Barbara invaluable.  As a professional who has in-depth understanding of people, Barbara’s coaching skills and experience offered a fresh perspective.  Our meetings provided a neutral, supportive environment that enabled me to challenge and develop my critical thinking skills, ideas and behaviours in a constructive manner.  The benefits I gained were improved communications and personal performance, reduced stress levels and development of my management skills.”  Brian
